Wanneer? 

Als we het hebben over situaties die onwaarschijnijk zijn.

Gaat waarschijnlijk niet gebeuren.

Second conditional 

Je hebt een if-clause en een main-clause

Voorbeeld:

  If she was a millionaire, she would be happy. 

Second conditional 

Vorm:

If-clause: past simple

main-clause: would + infinitive (hele ww)

(first conditional: present simple : if-clause and  present future: main clause)

Bij het werkwoord 'to be' gebruik je in de if-clause bij de onderwerpen/persoonlijke voornaamwoorden: 

 I, she, he, it --> were

If I were a panda, I would sleep all day.

Je maakt de second conditional met:

1. 'if' + present simple / will/won't + hele werkwoord
2. 'if' + past simple / would/wouldn't + hele werkwoord
3. 'if' + present simple / past simple
4. 'if' + past simple / present simple

We use the second conditional to...?

1. to talk about imaginary situations.
2. to talk about real situations.
3. to talk about the future.
4. to talk about a prediction (voorspelling).

A correct example of the second conditional is..

1. If she went to the police sooner, the thief had been caught.
2. The house smells good if my mom bakes a cake.
3. If I had a dog, I would walk in the park every day.
4. The house would smell good if my mom bakes a cake.

1. If I go to the party, I will say hello to everyone
