Chapter 12 – electrical energy
§12.1+  §12.2

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Before you do the questions:
  1. You are setup in a group through zoom.
  2. One of you shares their screen with the presentation on it.
  3. One of you writes down the answers you come to in a word document (if this isn't possible, aks mr. Brands for help)
  4. Now you're ready, start doing the questions.

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

See the circuit in the image on the right.
a) Which component is the source
of energy?

b) Which component uses the
energy?

c) how is the energy transported from the source to the component that uses it? — If your answer is 'through the wire' how is energy transported through the wire?

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Do the electrical charges in the wire have the same amount of energy after they pass through the lamp as before they pass through the lamp?

Explain.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

The next question is a quizz question.

If possible each memeber of the group connect to lessonup with their phone and chooses an answer themselves.

Afther that, discuss your answers.

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

What is another name a difference in energy per charge?
A
Coulomb
B
Current
C
Potential difference
D
emf (electromotive force)

Slide 6 - Quizvraag

What two functions does a battery have in a circuit?

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Watch the video in this link
Exlain the differene between potential difference and emf (electromotive force) in your own words.

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

If we compare a flow of electric charge to a flow of water of a mountain, then we could compare the current to how much liters of water flow by per second.
.
What can we compare potential difference to?

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

potential difference vs. cuerrent
  • Explain waht potential difference is in your own words.
  • Explain what the difference is bewteen potential difference and current.
  • What is the unit for potential difference? What is the unit for current?
  • These two units can be broken down further. Into what units can they be broken down?

Calculaitons
A 3V lamp is connected with a 6V battery and a variable resistor. The variable resistor is adjusted until the lamp is at it's optimal brightness. The current in the circuit then becomes 2A.
Calculate:
  • The charge passing through the lamp in 5 seconds.
  • The electrical energy supplied to this lamp in this time.
  • The electrical energy supplied by the battery in this time.

  • The electrical energy supplied by the battery in this time.

What is the potential difference across the resistor?

Calculaitons
A battery produces 60 J of electrical energy in a certain time interval. 50J of this energy goes to a lamp. the rest of the energy goes to a varaibale resistor.
a) How much energy goes to the varaible resistor?

b) 3 coulomb of charge passes through this circuit in this time interval.
  • What the emf of the battery?
  • What is the pd across the lamp? What is the pd across the resistor?

c) The current in this time interval was 0,5 A. Calculate the time interval in seconds
