Defining relative clauses

The Rule: We use defining relative clauses to make it clear exactly who or what you are talking about.
> Ancient Egyptians who had toothache didn't use to go to the dentist.

• Defining relative clauses give us essential information – information that tells us who or what we are talking about.

1. Find the topic in the sentence.
2. Is it a person, thing, animal, place, time or possession?
3. Is it possible to use both "which" and "that"?
4. Fill in the correct defining relative clause.
