6B: Past simple (affirmative) regular

You use this when you talk about something that already happened.

a) most verbs get +ed at the end work->worked

b) verb ends in -e, just add +d like->liked

c) verb ends in -y, change -y into -ied carry->carried

d) verb ends in a vowel and consonant, double the cons. +ed chat->chatted

Affirmative:

I/he/she/it was - You/we/they were

Negative:

I/he/she/it wasn't - You/we/they weren't

Interrogative and short answers:

Was I/he/she/it? No I/he/she/it wasn't, Yes I/he/she/it was.

Were you/we/they? No, you/we/they weren't, Yes you/we/they were.

Past simple: Can

Affirmative:

I/he/she/it/you/we/they could

Negative:

I/he/she/it/you/we/they couldn't

Interrogative and short answers:

Could I/he/she/it/you/we/they? Yes, ...  could/No, ... couldn't.

Where ... (be) you last night?
