finding the adverb

first: find the verb = where is the action?

adverbs specify the activity of the verb:

= where, when, how does the action (= verb) happen?

Annie quickly walked across the street.

first: what is the verb? 

= what is Annie doing?

next:

HOW?

WHERE?

WHEN?

--> quickly

Tom played the guitar yesterday.

first: what is the verb? 

= what is Tom doing?

next:

HOW?

WHERE?

WHEN?

--> yesterday

I'm feeling very sleepy...

Annie walks really quickly towards the shop.

Adverbs not only specify verbs 

but also:

- adjectives: how sleepy ? very sleepy

- other adverbs: how quickly? really quickly

e.g. very, entirely, barely, slightly, totally, almost, incredibly, mostly, fully, really...
