Nog een keer in het kort: Past Simple in bevestigende zinnen

Wat	Past simple
Wanneer	Om aan te geven dat iets in het verleden is gebeurd.
Hoe	Met - ed OF een onregelmatige vorm .
Signaalwoorden	Yesterday, last week, last month, two days ago, four days ago, months ago, etc.
Voorbeelden	He walked her home last night. I talked to him on the phone yesterday. She swam a lot in her spare time. The math teacher taught us a lot.

Past simple negatives

I didn't like dogs.

The teacher didn't talk all day.

The woman didn't scream very loudly.

Look! Sorry, I didn't see it.

She didn't swim a lot in her spare time.

The math teacher didn't teach us much.

Past Simple in vraagzinnen

Het allerbelangrijkste om te weten over vragen in de Past Simple is dat een vraag begint met “did” (of een wh-vraagwoord gevolgd door “did”), dan volgt het onderwerp en hierna volgt het hele werkwoord:

Did - onderwerp - hele werkwoord

Omdat het hulpwerkwoord (“do” --> "did") al in de verleden tijd staat hoeft/mag het werkwoord NIET meer in de verleden tijd staan!

Je zegt dus: Did I work yesterday?

en NIET Did I worked yesterday?

Uitzondering:

Het werkwoord “to be” heeft in de verleden tijd 2 vormen: was & were. Wanneer “was” of “were” in de zin staat kun je hier de vraag mee beginnen en heb je geen “did” nodig.

Bv. She was ill yesterday. 

Was she ill yesterday?

En dus NIET: Did she is ill yesterday?

Past Simple negatives

Example: She played handball. > She didn't play handball.

1. They collected post cards.

2. I wanted to go home.

3. Dad ordered pizza for lunch.

4. It rained in the afternoon.

5. My grandparents lived in a big house.

6. I was very happy with my new bike.

7. You jumped high.

8. They were very tired after the match.

9. We visited our grandfather yesterday.

10. My parents were out for dinner.
