Shorten as much as you can:
y = 3 x f + 6

1. y = 3f + 6
2. 3f + 6
3. y = 9f
4. y = 9 x f

Solution:

                                                          y = 3 x f + 6

The only thing you can do here is leave out the 'x' !

So:                                                   y = 3f + 6

Not  y = 9f, because 3f and 6 are NOT LIKE TERMS!

a = 4b + 6c

1. a = 10bc
2. a = 4b + 6c
3. 4b + 6c
4. 10bc

Solution:

a = 4b + 6c   

There is absolutely, sad as it might be, nothing you can do

about it....

It just stays the same. You cannot add up 'b-s' and 'c-s'.

What does ' a fee' mean in dutch?

t = 6h + 4f and
4f + 6h = t mean the same.

Shorten this:
d = 5 -3t -6 + 5t

Solution:

d = 5 - 3t - 6 +5t

Take together the LIKE TERMS:

d = 5 - 6 - 3t + 5t

d = -1 + 2t     or    d = 2t -1

Translate: Lorry drivers have to pay to use the ferry.

Translation:

Lorry drivers have to pay to use the ferry =

vrachtwagenchauffeurs moeten betalen om de boot te gebruiken.

Calculate g when p = 6 in
g = 5p -6

Solution:

g = 5p - 6

Replace the letter p (the VARIABLE) with the number 6 :

g = 5 x 6 - 6 

g = 30 -6

g = 24

Let's freshen up your knowledge from §9.3 :

Calculate
t = 8 -5 (4 - c) when c = 2

Solution:  

Calculate t = 8 - 5(4 - c)   when  c = 2.

As follows:   replace the letter c with the number 2 :

t = 8 - 5(4 - 2)                   Now work out the brackets first:

t = 8 - 5 x 2   Do you see the RETURN of the 'x'- sign!?

t = 8 - 10  so

t = -2

What does 'charity' mean?

Calculate p when h = -4

solution:

p = 13 - 2h            

fill in h = -4

p = 13 - 2 x -4

shorten as much as possible:
t = -1r - - t

1. t = 1r - t
2. t = -r + t
3. t = r - t
4. t = 1 + t

Solution:

t = - 1r - - t

as we know:       - 1r = - r.                and         - - t = + t

so the answer is:

t = -r + t
