• Make plurals (=meervoud)

What's the difference?

Wanneer gebruik je "any"?

Singular = enkelvoud

Plural = meervoud

How do you do this in Dutch?

1 hond / 5 ...

1 kat / 5 ...

1 kies / 5 ...

1 datum / 5 ...

1 jongen / 5 ...

1 baby / 5...

1 kind / 5 ....

So there are lots of different ways to make plurals in Dutch:

-s

-'s

-en

-s wordt z + en

- double last letter + en (kat-katten)

-irregular (volgt de regele niet)  (kind-kinderen; datum=data)

In English, there are also many different ways to make a plural

One rule for plural = word + s

               1 dog - 3 dogs

    1 dog

   3 dogs

Words that end in 'medeklinker + y'

                             -y + ies

                 

  1 bunny                                      4 bunnies

words that end in 'klinker + y' 

                            

       get just an - s

          

  1 boy                                          3 boys

      words that end in a 'his klank' so:   ch, sh, s, ss, x, z

                            

                                    get an -es

                 

  1 dress                                        4 dresses

 words that end in a  'medeklinker + o'

                            

                             get an -es

                 

   1 tomato                                    4 tomatoes

Words that end in -f or -fe

                            

                     the -f/-fe disappears and becomes - ves

                 

     1 leaf                                     4 leaves

+ FISH

And then there are irregular plurals. They don't follow the -s, -es, -ies rule..
