Before we read:

• What kind of texts do you know?
• Does the layout of this text help you to know the purpose?
• Read title and look at illustration. What is this text about?

We read Reality TV for real in turns. Volunteers? 

What is the purpose of this text?

In what sentence does the author summarise his view on reality TV?

What is footage?

Film or videotape that shows a particular event or place.

Why this funny name? Early 35 mm silent film was traditionally  measured by length in feet and frames in cutting rooms. 

The jury watched video footage of the riots.

Frankenbite

Franken(stein) + (sound)bite

“Frankenstein” was a novel written in 1818 by Mary Shelley about a mad scientist who stitched together a monster from pieces of various human corpses.

Before: Sally is my best friend out of all the teachers here.

Before: The school board doesn’t seem to appreciate the gravity of the situation.

Before: …only 100 of them can park on the school lot. It’s just not right.

After: Sally// doesn’t seem to appreciate// the teachers here.// It’s just not right.

Find two headlines of news stories and combine them into one that is weird or funny.

Make notes in your notebook or memorise them.

Share your story with a partner and choose the best (weirdest/funniest/cutest) one.

After 7 minutes I will ask some of you to report 

your story back to the class.
