Elke zin heeft in ieder geval een hoofdwerkwoord. In sommige tijden, en bij sommige betekenissen, is er ook nog een hulpwerkwoord 

Questions & Negations

Twee regels voor ontkennen en vragen van werkwoordtijden:

1. Met auxiliary verb (hulpwerkwoord)

2. Zonder auxiliary verb (alleen een hoofdwerkwoord)

Rule 1

With the verb to be and auxiliary verbs (hulp ww) such as can and may, you place that verb at the beginning of a question. In a negative sentence, you place not/n’t after that verb.

Examples:

I can speak English well. - Can I speak English well? - I can't/cannot speak English well. 

I am a teacher. - Am I a teacher? - I am not a teacher.

Rule 2

With any other main verb, you add the verb to do. You place a form of to do at the beginning of a question. In a negative sentence, you place not/n’t after a form of to do. The main verb changes to the infinitive. 

Examples:

I love cheese. - Do I love cheese? - I don't love cheese.

Henrieke loves her cats. - Does Henrieke love her cats? - Henrieke doesn't love her cats. 

Questions & Negations

- 2. If there is no form of "to be" or no auxiliary verb
       (can/may/etc.), you add a form of "to do". 

       He told me about the trip. >  Did he tell you about the trip?
       The cat sleeps in our bed.  > The cat doesn't sleep in our bed
      

I overslept yesterday.

1. I didn't overslept yesterday.
2. I didn't oversleep yesterday
3. I don't overslept yesterday.
4. I don't oversleep yesterday.

I am your teacher.

1. I amn't your teacher.
2. I am not your teacher.
3. I don't am your teacher.
4. I don't be your teacher.

Turn this sentence into a question:
I am your teacher.

Turn this sentence into a question:
You don't like school.

Turn this sentence into a question:
Pizza with pineapple is a disgrace.

Turn this sentence into a negative:
Pizza with pineapple is a disgrace.

Turn this into a negative sentence:
The teacher explained the assignment.

Turn into a question:
We were playing on our iPads.

Make this sentence negative:
My friend and I play on the same team.

Make into a negative sentence:
I can swim.
