THE FUTURE (toekomst)

   * Er zijn vier werkwoordsvormen om over de toekomst te praten in het Engels.

Present Simple

Present Continuous

Will / Shall + hele werkwoord

to be going to + hele werkwoord

PRESENT SIMPLE

Wanneer gebruik je deze vorm?

* Als iets volgens schema gaat gebeuren, bv. de tijden van een trein.

Examples:

- The shop closes at 8 PM. 

- The bus arrives at 10.23 AM.

Present Continuous

Wanneer gebruik je deze vorm?

* Als dingen al gepland zijn en ze vrijwel zeker gaan gebeuren, bv. je geeft een feestje en hebt al een locatie geregeld.

Example:

- I  am throwing a party this Saturday.

Will / Shall + hele werkwoord

Wanneer gebruik je deze vorm?

* Als het plan ontstaat tijdens een gesprek

* Bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een mening

* Bij een spontaan aanbod, weigeringen, beloftes, voorstellen of verzoeken.

* Bij feiten.

* Bij onzekerheid over de toekomst, i.c.m. possibly, probably, I think

Je gebruikt shall in een vraagvorm waarin I of we het onderwerp is.

Will / Shall + hele werkwoord

Examples:

- Are you feeling sick? I will get you a cup of tea OF Shall I get you a cup of tea? 

- I think your party will be great!

- Will you go to the movies with me?

- There will always be a tomorrow. 

- I think we will not (or won't) see each other for a few weeks.

Wanneer gebruik je deze vorm?

* Als het plan ontstaat tijdens een gesprek

* Bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een mening

* Bij een spontaan aanbod, weigeringen, beloftes, voorstellen of verzoeken.

* Bij feiten.

* Bij onzekerheid over de toekomst, i.c.m. possibly, probably, I think

To be going to + hele werkwoord

Wanneer gebruik je deze vorm?

* Als het plan er al was voor het gesprek.

* Bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een aanwijzing.

Examples:

- We are going to take lots of pictures.

- The weather is going to be lovely today, look at the blue sky!
