Chord = akkoord

A chord is 3 or more notes played together as one sound

Chords is like the glue of the band

Chords add the feeling of tension, more tension or  no tension "home" to the music

How do you know if a chord is minor?

1. There's a # in the chord name
2. There's a b in the chord name
3. There's the letter m in the chord name
4. The chord name is in CAPITAL letters

With which hand do you play the bass note, the root of the chord?

1. left
2. right
3. both hands
4. without hands

What is an inversion?

1. It is a chord played with the notes in a different order than root - third - fifth
2. It is a chord played with the notes in the following order: root - third - fifth
3. It is a chord played without the bass
4. It is a chord played with the notes in the following order: fifth - third - root

Inversion

Why can't you play a chord on a recorder (=blokfluit)?

1. A recorder is not suitable for popmusic
2. A recorder sounds too high to play chords
3. You can only play 1 note at a time on a recorder
4. No one should ever play the recorder, it's awful

A chord is written down with a Chord symbol

A chord symbol looks just like a letter:

Major & minor

2 types of chords: Major & Minor

A chord is usually major, if it's a minor chord, we add an extra m

If you think you hear a major chord: STAND UP!

If you think you hear a minor chord: put your arms together

Building a chord

A chord has 3 notes:

Root = name of the chord or chordsymbol

Third = third step on the scale

Fifth = fifth step on the scale

1. G - A - B
2. G - B - D
3. G - C - E

Which notes do you need to make a chord of F?

1. F - E - D
2. F - G - A
