Comparisons

Comparative: -er + ´than´ behind the adjective (bijv. nw)

Short adjectives with the comparative: use -er

Ex. He is shorter than his brother

Long adjectives with the comparative: use ´more´
Ex. She is more beautiful than her friend

Fill in the correct answer
Her skin is much ... after two weeks in the Caribbean (dark)

Fill in the correct answer
The traffic is ... today because of an accident on the highway (slow)

Comparisons

Superlative: add ´the´ + -est at the end of the word

Short adjectives with the superlative: use -est

Ex. That car is the fastest of all six

Long adjectives with the superlative: use (the) ´most´

Ex. That is the most ridiculous answer I´ve ever heard

Fill in the correct answer
That is the ... mountain I have ever seen (high)

Fill in the correct answer
The cheetah is the ... animal in the world (fast)

Comparisons

Words that already end with an ´e´, only get -r or -st at the end

Example:

Nice - nicer (than) - (the) nicest
Brave - braver (than) - (the) bravest

Late - later (than) - (the) latest

Comparisons

Als er een woord eindigt op een medeklinker, en er staat een klinker voor, dan wordt de medeklinker verdubbeld

Voorbeeld:

Big - bigger (than) - (the) biggest

Thin - thinner (than) - (the) thinnest

Comparison

Eindigt het woord op een ´y´, dan verandert de ´y´ in ´ie´

Voorbeeld:

Silly - sillier (than) - (the) silliest

Easy - easier (than) -(the) easiest

Adverb

Place of the Adverbs

An adverb indicates how something happens 

(how quickly, how often, how beautifully, and so on). 

So an adverb gives some more information about an other word in the sentence, or the whole sentence.

Place of Adverbs

Examples: never, always, ever, only, also, already.

These adverbs usually come before the main verb

She has never been here before.

Have you ever seen an elephant up a tree?

I have only heard the song once.

Place the adverb in the correct position
Our friends must write a test. (also)

Place the adverb in the correct position
I was joking. (only)

Place the adverb in the correct position
Mary watches TV. (Hardly, ever)

Place the adverb in the correct position
He drives his car. (carefully)
