Past Simple

When to use the past simple?
The past simple is a verb tense that we use to talk about actions or events that happened and were completed in the past.

How to use the past simple (form)
Regular verbs
You just need to add -ed to the verb:
dance – danced, play – played, laugh – laughed

Irregular verbs
These verbs don’t follow the rules. You will have to learn them separately 
go - went, have - had, eat - ate

Signal Words
When you are using the past simple, you are talking about the past. Signal words can help to recognize the past simple. For example:
  • Yesterday, 
  • Last week
  • Specific dates (May 23, September 2021)
