Present Continuous: wanneer gebruik je het? 

Je gebruikt de Present Continuous als je het vertelt over iets wat NU aan de gang is/bezig is. 

We are reading at the moment.

Look! That pigeon is pooping on that man's head. 

Listen! She is singing again.

Hoe maak je de Present Continuous?

Stap 1: Kijk naar het onderwerp van de zin

I --> am

He/She/It --> is

You/We/They --> are

Stap 2: Kijk naar het werkwoord

geen uitzondering --> schrijf op werkwoord+ing (doing, trying)

eindigt op -e --> haal de e weg en schrijf werkwoord+ing (having, giving)

eindigt op -c --> werkwoord+king (panicking)

kort werkwoord met één lettergreep --> verdubbel laatste letter en schrijf werkwoord+ing (hitting, stopping)

Present Continuous: ontkenningen en vragen

Ontkenningen:

am not / is not / are not + werkwoord + ing

Vragen:

am / is / are + onderwerp + werkwoord + ing

I (to watch) television.

Past Continuous: wanneer gebruik je die?

De Past Continuous gebruik je als je wilt aangeven dat je in het verleden iets aan het doen was en er tegelijkertijd iets anders gebeurde. (dit staat dan in de Past Simple) 

When I was reading a book, my mother came in.

She was singing out loud when the doorbell rang.

He was doing his homework when is father came in. 

Past Continuous: hoe maak je die? 

Past Continuous maak je als volgt:

was / were + werkwoord + ing

voorbeeld: I was sleeping when my alarm clock went off.

voorbeeld: They were laughing when the teacher came in.

Was gebruik je bij I/He/She/It

Were gebruik je bij You/They/We

Past Continuous: ontkenning en vraagzin

Vragen maken:

Begin de vraagzin met was / were.

Voorbeeld: Was she sleeping when her alarm clock went off?

Voorbeeld: Were they laughing when the teacher came in?

Ontkenning maken:

Zet not achter was / were.

Voorbeeld: She was not sleeping when her alarm clock went off.

Past Continuous: ontkenningen en vragen

Ontkenningen:

were not / was not  + werkwoord + ing

I was not dreaming last night

Vragen:

was / were + onderwerp + werkwoord + ing

Were you dreaming last night?
