Reading practice for checkpoint

When answering the questions:

1) When you literally write down the answer from the book always use "quotation mark", as you are quoting from someone elses text.

2) Always paraphrase your answer correctly, when the infromation is from the text.

3) Some answers aren't literally found in the text, this is where your understanding of the story is important. Describe the feeling, mood, or character of someone, something or somewhere with the correct words.

What does the adverb 'spitefully' tell you about the sort of person Esther was?

which words and phrases give you an idea of the elephant's size? ( para 4)

Which words tell you what Tad could hear? What did the sounds tell him? ( line 26-27)

5) what does the verb 'snaked round' tell you about the way the elephant's trunk approached Tad? ( line 43)

6) What do the words 'gentler than any human hand Tad could remember' tell you about Tad's life. and about the touch of the elephant's trunk? ( line 47)

What was the elephant trying to do when he "shuffed and stamped and trumpeted"?( line 68)

8) What do the words "being watched and picked on and pointed at" tell you about Tad's life? ( line 73)

With first person point of view, the main character is telling the story.

I always look forward to my summer vacation at the beach. I like to collect seashells and swim in the ocean.

 

We love walking the dogs in the woods. We all think it is so much fun.

With the third person limited POV, the narrator only has insight into one character’s thoughs

He knows that he is a great football player. He is proud to have scored the most touchdowns this season.

She heard a loud crash in the middle of the night. She was so scared that she didn't know what she should do next

With third person omniscient POV, the narrator knows the thoughts, motivations and actions of more than one character in the story.

Amy was looking forward to girls night out, but the others in her group of friends were secretly hoping that the monthly outing would get cancelled.

Your story must have a BEGINNING a MIDDLE and an END

Introduce your characters: using adjectives describe your characters

Describe the setting of the story: appealing to the 5 senses

A story always has a problem or conflict. What is the problem ? How is the problem affecting the characters

The problem is solved or it isn't, but there has to be a clear ending

How to end your story

ADVICE ENDING: Tells the reader what to do or not to do

LESSON ENDING: Tells the reader an important lesson learnt

CLIFFHANGER ENDING: Leaves the reader hanging with another problem

QUESTION ENDING: Asks the reader a question to leave them thinking
