John Calvin had similar ideas as Luther.
His ideas about sobriety and modesty were very appealing to
many Dutch people.
Calvins followers are called Calvinists

Difference between Luther and Calvin
Calvin thought the church should not be governed from above, but by people themselves. He believed in the seperation of church and state.
However Luther thought that kings
got their power from God. So revolting
against a king would be revolting
against God.

Back to Charles V
Charles was not very happy with the development
of Protestantism in his territory.
He was of course a very Catholic man!
To protect the Catholic faith he sets up the inquisition.
This makes it possible to persecute and punish
heretics. Many protestants were executed.
Speciale kerkelijke rechtbank voor het vervolgen van ketters. Ketters zijn gelovigen die luther of calvijn volgen en dus niet (meer) het Katholieke geloof.
