What is the purpose

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Candidate name is YOUR NAME
The clients number is:

The first 3 letters of their SURNAME
The first letter of their FIRST name
The day from their date of birth.

For example, the client code for Blossom Wilson born 25/06/93 would be: WilB25
The date you carried out the service
This is what service you are carrying out.
For example: Shampoo and blowdry
In this area you need to record what units you are being assessed for.
Remember, you do not have to as assessed for everything you are doing in that service.

For example, you may be doing a shampoo and blowdry but you can just request to be assessed for the shampooing part of the service.
The time you begin the service. You need to record the time for EACH service you are carrying out. For example, if you were carrying out a shampoo and blowdry you must remember to record the time you start your shampoo and the time you start your blowdry

You also need to make sure you let the assessor know you are starting so they can record the start time too.
The time you finish the service. You need to record the time for EACH service you are carrying out. For example, if you were carrying out a shampoo and blowdry  you must remember to record the time you finish your shampoo and the time you finish your blowdry.
You also need to make sure you let the assessor know you have finished so they can record the start time too.

How to identify hair types
Normal hair: Good elasticity and porosity test results, hair will appear shiny and cuticles smooth.
Damaged hair: Questioning the client, poor elasticity and porosity test results, visual damage to the hair, breakage, hair may be dull and lacklustre, hair may tangle easily.
Dry hair: Hair which is dull and lacklustre in appearance, raised cuticles causing the hair to feel rough when carrying out a porosity test.
Product build up
Product build up: Hair may look oily and feel crunchy with visible excess product on the hair, hair may look dull and lacklustre due to the hair being coated in product, a white residue may be able to be scraped off the hair.
Oily hair: Questioning, hair will appear wet looking and may clump together, hair will be dull and lacklustre

How to identify scalp conditions:
Normal: Scalp will be a pinky/white shade with no dry or oily areas
Oily: Questioning, the scalp area will look shiny and could look damp, excessively oily scalps can smell.
Dry: Scalp appears very white and there may be flakes of white skin
 close to the scalp area.
Product build up: Visible build up of product on the scalp which can be scraped off, depending on the product used the scalp could appear dry and flaky or oily.
Dandruff: Yellow patches on the scalp and the scalp can smell (fungal dandruff), white and flaky scalp (stress related dandruff)
You need to record what hair type they naturally have, not how it looks when you are carrying out your consultation. Always question your client to find out if they have straightened or curled  their hair.
You carry out an elasticity test before ALL services.
How to carry out an elasticity test:
1) Take a small section of hair (10-15 strands)
2) Use a water spray to wet the section
3) hold the section between thumb and finger and gently pull the hair

Results:
Hair stretches and returns- Hair is in good condition
Hair stretches and doesnt return- There is some damage to the hair
Hair breaks- Hair is VERY damaged and you must take care when handling
You carry out a porosity test to see how porous the hair is. the more porous the hair, the more moisture it will hold and product will soak into it.

How to carry out a porosity test:
1) take a few strands of hair (2-3)
2) run your fingers along the hair from root to tip and the tip to root to feel for bumps and ridges in the hair.

Results:
Hair is smooth throughout- Hair is not porous
Bumps and ridges in areas- Some areas are porous
Bumps and ridges throughout the hair- hair is porous throughout
If a client hair is not coloured, lightened (bleached) or permed it is classed as Virgin hair
A contra indication is something which may restrict or prevent your service being carried out. It is important you find out and record the answers to these questions on your consultation sheet and make any neccessary changes.
You need to be able to identify what face shape your client has as this will help you to choose the best style for them. If you are not sure what face shape your client has speak to your tutor or look at the face shape handout in the salon.
