6 LessonsScheme of Work: Safety During the Summer for KS2 Children
Subject: Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) Education Key Stage: 2 (Ages 7-11) Duration: 6 weeks (One lesson per week)This series of lessons has been developed to support KS2 teachers in equipping their class with knowledge and skills which may help them to keep safe during the summer holiday. All lessons are fully adaptable, so that you can customise the content to suit your specific school context.
Objective: To introduce the concept of safety during the summer and create awareness of potential risks. Topics: Understanding the importance of safety during the summer. Identifying common summer safety hazards (e.g., sunburn, dehydration, water safety). Discussing ways to stay safe during outdoor activities.
Objective: To educate children on the importance of protecting themselves from the sun's harmful rays. Topics: Understanding the dangers of excessive sun exposure. Discussing the effects of sunburn and heatstroke. Teaching strategies for sun protection (e.g., wearing sunscreen, using hats and sunglasses, seeking shade).
Objective: To promote safe behaviour and awareness around water-related activities during the summer. Topics: Understanding the risks associated with inland water; canals, lakes and weirs. Learning about water safety rules and guidelines. Developing basic swimming and water survival skills.
