Plan your writing – 5 minutes.
What are you going to write in the introduction? What is your first argument? What is your second argument? Signal words/phrases! How to start your conclusion? What is your thesis?

Search for useful phrases online. ‘Beter goed gejat dan slecht bedacht!’

Essay prompt
You have watched a documentary about what causes young people to start committing crimes. You have made the notes below.

Reasons why young people commit crimes
  • lack of control by parents
  • absence of opportunities in life
  • influence of friends

Some opinions expressed in the documentary:
‘Without firm discipline from parents, some children are likely to get into trouble.”
‘It’s not surprising that young people who feel they have no chance of a good life turn to crime.”
‘The bad influence of people they mix with can cause some young people to take up crime.’

Do you think youngsters' environment has an influence on the probability of them committing crimes? Write an argumentative essay.
Outline: Introduction, thesis statement, two arguments, conclusion. 220-260 words.
