Grammar I: Modals

She can sing in a band. 

She could sing in a band. 

She should sing in a band.

She has to sing in a band.

Na een modal verb komt er geen +s achter het werkwoord. Je gebruikt het hele werkwoord.

Modal Verbs: can/could/should/have to

CAN

1. Om te zeggen wat mensen/ dieren/dingen kunnen. 

Fish can breathe under water.

2. Om te zeggen dat iets  mogelijk is.

It can be dangerous.

3. Om om toestemming te vragen. 

Can I please go to the bathroom?

COULD

1. Om te zeggen wat mensen/ dieren/ dingen konden in het verleden. 

I couldn't stay out when I was young.

2. Om beleefd iets te vragen.

Could we watch a scary movie grandma?

3. Om over mogelijkheden in de toekomst te praten.

We could go to the movie on Sunday.

Modals: Should, have to

1. You should take a sweater with you. It might get cold.
2. I have to do the dishes.
   
3. You don't have to worry about me. I will be fine.
