Paragraph 2.2
1) How does the energy from the sun get into our bodies?
2)How are fossil fuels created?
3) Name three examples of fossil fuel
4) What is a biofuel?

Slide 11 - Slide

1) How does the energy from the sun get into our bodies?
  • Plants use the energy from the sun to grow using  photosynthesis.

  • This way energy from the sun gets stored in plants.

  •  When animals eat plants they use the energy stored in the plants to grow themselves.

Slide 12 - Slide

2)How are fossil fuels created?
  • Many trees and animals died over millions of years

  • As the surface of the earth changed they got buried under sediments such as mud, sand and earth.

  • This created massive amounts of pressur. Over time they were converted into fossil fuels.

    Slide 13 - Slide

    3) Name three types of fossil fuels
    •  Coal : formed from plants

    •  Gas : fromed from sea creatures

    • Oil: fromed from sea creatures

    Slide 14 - Slide

    4. what are biofuels
any fuel that is derived from biomass—that is, plant or algae material or animal waste.
Alcohol and wood are examples of biofuel.

    Slide 15 - Slide

    Green energy
    What do you know about?

    • Why is it important?
    • How is it different from fossil fuel?
    • How is it generated?

    Slide 16 - Slide

    Renewable or green energy
Renewable energy uses energy sources that are not "used up". For example, solar power from the sun is renewable as we can use it  again and again.  Examples of non-renewable energy sources include fossil fuels like coal and oil.

    Slide 17 - Slide

    Slide 18 - Video

Most common sources of green energy
    • Solar
    • Wind
    • Hydro
    • Geo-thermal
    • Biomass

    Slide 19 - Slide

    Solar energy
    Solar panels
    Solar cells

    Slide 20 - Slide

    Wind energy
Wind turbine: Wind makes the wind turbines turn around.

    Slide 21 - Slide

    Hydro energy (water)
    Hydropower plant

    Slide 22 - Slide

    Geo thermal
this type of energy is found under the earth. The hot lava from a volcano can be used as a source of heat.

    Slide 23 - Slide

    Bio mass
Biomass energy uses natural materials like trees and plants to make electricity.

    Slide 24 - Slide

    Nuclear energy
Nuclear energy is the energy in the nucleus, or core, of an atom.  There is a huge amount of energy in an atom's dense nucleus
