 In some cases he was succesful.
Boniface was English monk who attempted to convert the Frisians. He was murdered in 754 near Dokkum.

Missionaries believed that it was good to devote their lifes completely to God and leave their own environment and relatives behind. The Bible encouraged them to spread their faith. As Anglo-Saxons, they also felt related to the people on the continent.
