Grammar
  • For this part we will make groups:
  • 1. You will join the front of the class to follow the grammar explanation again
  • 2. You will work independently in your reader.

The ones working independently will work on exercises from page 19 until 30 and will continue from where they left off.

Slide 3 - Slide

Grammar
  • Open your reader on page 91, there you will see the Past Simple.
  •  The standard rule is: Stam + (e)d, but there are exceptions of course as seen on the bottom of page 91.

Some examples:  Treat -> Treated, I want -> I wanted

"I will treat myself to a glass of wine." -> "I treated myself to a glass of wine."
"I want to go out for dinner." -> "I wanted to go out for dinner."

Slide 4 - Slide

Grammar
  • Word ends on -e? Stam + D   like -> I liked,  agree -> I agreed
  • Word ends on Y + ed? Yed = ied (als er een medeklinker voor staat)  Verify -> Verified
  • It can also stay -yed (Als er een klinker voor -y staat)  Pray -> Prayed
  • The last consonant (medeklinker) after one emphasised vowel (beklemtoonde klinker) will be doubled: Prefer -> Preferred, Stop -> Stopped
  • The L only doubles if there is one vowel in front of it: Travel -> Travelled. If there are two vowels, this doesn't happen: Reveal -> Revealed
