The Future Tense
There are 4 ways to refer to the future in English:
1.  Will/shall + verb
2. going to + verb
3.  Present simple as the future tense
4.  Present continuous as the future tense

1. Will / shall (revision)
FORM: will /shall + verb

Examples: I will/shall,    you'll,     they will not (= won't) go

For I and we, you can also use shall. But beware: in a question you have to use shall: e.g. Shall we start?

WHEN DO YOU USE IT? 
1. For spontaneous, non-planned actions such as offers, promises or predictions without any evidence) 
Example: We will help you later. (offer)

2. General references to the future
Example: Henry will become a doctor later.

  1.  We shall help you with the dishes. (offer)
  2. He will call Patrick tomorrow. (promise)
  3. The concert will start in 5 minutes. (announcement)
  4. Alicia will become a teacher. (general reference to the future)

2. Going to (revision)
FORM: am/are/is + going to + verb 

WHEN TO USE IT? 
  1. To talk about what someone intends to do (intention)
  2. For things that will certainly happen (with evidence)

    Example: Watch out! Those books are going to fall!

1. We are going to visit Newcastle next weekend. (plan)
2. Look at the sky. It is going to snow tonight. (evidence)
3.  How are we going to get to London this Sunday? (plan)

3. Present Simple 
FORM: verb + s for he/she/it     (= shit-rule) 

Example: The train leaves at 6 pm. 

WHEN? For things that are going to happen according to a timetable. E.g. public transport, school or training schedules.

4. Present Continuous 
FORM: verb + ing  

Example: I am meeting my father tomorrow.

WHEN? For something planned and organised: definite future arrangements. You have already made a plan and are pretty sure that the event will happen in the future.
