present simple

in voorwaardelijke bijzin (0) : If you add some sugar to this fruitjuice it becomes much sweeter. 

present continuous

am / is/ are + verb + -ing

aan de gang: Do not disturb dad; he is taking a nap.

tijdelijke situatie: Because our house is being renovated we are living in a caravan.

vastliggend plan voor de toekomst: I am having my teeth checked this afternoon.

in ontwikkeling: The situation is becoming more dangerous every day.

past simple

     did

als iets in het verleden begonnen en gestopt is: I read that book. I worked as a shop assistant.

past continuos

was / were + verb + -ing

wanneer iets in het verleden langer heeft geduurd dan iets anders: When John came home his children were having a party.

wanneer iets in het verleden tijdelijk was: When my parents were on holiday my grandparents were looking after us.

past perfect

had + voltooid deelwoord

als iets eerder gebeurde in het verleden dan iets anders: 

After he had cut his finger, he called 112.

Before entering the cinema they had sanitized their hands.
