Past Simple (Read this well!)
Wanneer gebruik je de past simple?
  • Je gebruikt de past simple wanneer iets in het verleden is gebeurt en nu is afgelopen. 
  • Als er een tijdsbepaling in de zin staat.(yesterday, last night)
Hoe ziet de Past Simple eruit?
  • Bij regelmatige werkwoorden (regular verbs):
        ww + ed (bv. stay - stayed, walk - walked)
  • Bij onregelmatige werkwoorden (irregular verbs):
        2e rijtje (bv. drink - drank, get - got) (p. 213 of your book)

Past Continuous (Read this well)
Wanneer gebruik je de past continuous?
  • Je gebruikt de past continuous wanneer je het hebt over iets dat in het verleden bezig was.
Hoe ziet de Past continuous eruit?
  • vorm van 'to be' (was/were) + hww + ing

Voorbeeld: I was speaking to him.

Hoe gebruik je de past simple en de past continuous in 1 zin?
Je gebruikt de past simple en de past continuous in één zin om aan te geven dat een handeling (past continuous) bezig was toen een andere, kortere handeling (past simple) deze onderbrak.



Voorbeeld: "I was walking in the park when it started to rain."

In dit voorbeeld was het wandelen een langere handeling, en het beginnen met regenen was een kortere actie die die het wandelen onderbrak.

Hoe gebruik je de past simple en de past continuous in 1 zin?
Je gebruikt de past simple en de past continuous in één zin om aan te geven dat een handeling (past continuous) bezig was toen een andere, kortere handeling (past simple) deze onderbrak.



Voorbeeld: "I was walking in the park when it started to rain."

In dit voorbeeld was het wandelen een langere handeling, en het beginnen met regenen was een kortere actie die die het wandelen onderbrak.
