Introduction
In this lesson, we will be learning about how the culture and cuisine of the UK differs from that of another country of our choice. By the end of the lesson, we should be able to compare and contrast the cultures and cuisines of both countries.
You should produce your work on a PowerPoint and upload it to the Padlet - link on Teams. Please finish for homework if needed (max 20 minutes) before uploading. To upload, save your work to the files app on your iPad and upload from there.
Slide 4 - Slide
Guide the class in a discussion about what different countries' cultures and cuisines look like. Check for understanding that the goal of the lesson is to be able to compare and contrast.
Geography & Climate
The geographical features and climate of a country has a major influence on the culture and cuisine of the area. Discuss different geographical features, such as mountains, rivers and coastlines, and how they have impacted each country's culture and food.
Slide 5 - Slide
Guide the discussion to aid the students in understanding how geographical features and climate can affect culture and cuisine. Ask thought-provoking questions to develop their understanding.
Social Factors
Discuss how different socio-economic and historical factors, such as migration and colonisation, have also influenced culture and cuisine in both countries. Draw connections between each country's cultural and culinary developments.

Invite the students to present their ideas, and guide the discussion with questions to help the students draw relationships between the countries' socio-cultural history and their current culture and cuisine.
Traditional Dishes
Explain what traditional dishes are characteristic of each country and why. Compare and contrast the ingredients and preparation of the dishes. Discuss the impact that traditional dishes have had on culture in each country.

Encourage the students to have an open dialogue about the traditional dishes of each country. Ask the students to share their opinions and experiences with the dishes.
Examples
Provide examples of traditional dishes from each country to illustrate the points discussed in the previous slides. Show pictures of the dishes and explain their ingredients and preparation.
Slide 8 - Slide
Ask the students to identify each dish and explain why it is a traditional dish. Guide the students in understanding how the dishes are a reflection of their respective countries' cultures.
Extension 1
Choose a famous chef from one of your countries. Research the person and their type of cuisine and then write 1 PowerPoint slide about them.
