• They put them as a human being, at the centre.

• Humanism began as a literary movement focused
  on education.

• Criticism of society was typical for humanists.
• --> F.ex.: Dutch humanist and priest Erasmus.

Humanists drew their inspiration from classical

works, for example from the Roman

philosopher

• But what did the humanists want to
