Lexical verbs are main verbs that show the action or state.
Auxiliary verbs are helping verbs that can show additional information such as tense.

Keep in mind: In any sentence, there can only be one lexical verb, but there can be more auxiliary verbs.


I rang my friend.

I was ringing my friend.

He is cooking.

Question tags
Zin is positief - tag is negatief.
Zin is negatief - tag is positief.

She is pretty, isn't she?
Thay boy doesn't like dogs, does he?

Substituutvormen
Je 'vervangt' de lexical verbs verderop in de zin.

I like Chinese food, and so does he.
She is eating an apple, isn't she?
She is looking at that pizza, and so is her sister.

Thay boy doesn't like dogs, does he?

Staat er een lexical verb in de zin? Gebruik dan 'do, does, did'. Auxiliary verbs kan je herhalen.

Copulas = linking verb
A Copular verbs is used to join an adjective or a noun complement to a subject. 

Peter is my boyfriend. = Peter + boyfriend  are the same person.
Honey is sweet = repeats a quality of honey.
The night grew dark = repeats a quaility of the night.

Vragend maken
Haal het werkwoord naar voren. Bij een lexical verb gebruik je 'to do' er bij.

She loves him.
Does she love him?

She is amazing.
Is she amazing?


Ontkennend maken
Gebruik ALTIJD 'do, does, did not' + hele werkwoord om de zinnen ontkennend te maken.

She likes olives.
She doesn't like olives.

He did amazing.
He didn't do amazing.
