What is a presentation?

• You stand  in front of the class
• You explain something to your classmates/ teacher
• You speak only in English
• You will get a grade for this 

A good presentation: Introduction

• Introduce yourself: who are you? What are you going to do? 

• Introduce the topic: what is the presentation going to be about? 

“Hello ladies and gentlemen, today I’m going to talk about….
“The topic of this presentation will be …” / “this presentation will be about …”
“Let’s get started.” / “shall we get started?”

How to give a presentation

• Which part will there be in your presentation?

“My presentation consists of the following parts.”

“These topics will be discussed in this order.”

“First we will talk about … and then about …”

“You can ask questions at the end of the presentation. “

“I will be happy to answer your questions at the end of my presentation.”

Practise at home!

• In front of the mirror!
• Record yourself!
• In front of your family!
• Learn everything by heart!

During the presentation

• Use a cheat sheet (spiekbriefje)! -- Only words or sentences! Not a full text!
• Stand up straight. 
• Make eye contact with your audience!
• Speak loud enough!

The assignment (opdracht)

• Choose a topic that has got something to do with food (British, Scottish, American, Australian dishes for example
• Choose a topic that you can talk a lot about. Duration: around 2-3 minutes.
• Give a presentation about a topic. The teacher will make a planning telling you when it is your turn.
• Possible parts of the presentation: what are you going to talk about and why? Contents & end your presentation.
• Make a Powerpoint and use key words. It’s not allowed to read a text out loud. So learn the information by heart. 
• I will pay attention to; duration, level of word usage, intonation, grammar, fluency, presentation skills, pronunciation etc.

• Topic: Food in English Speaking Countries (for example: British, American, Australian, Scottish, Irish dishes)
• How long: 2-3 minutes.
• Parts: What are you going to talk about and why? Contents & end of your presentation.
• Make powerpoint: Use key words! Learn everything by heart! No reading from the board!
• Grade: Duration, words, intonation, grammar, fluency, presentation skills, pronunciation etc.
