The passive voice

De lijdende vorm = het onderwerp is niet belangrijk in de zin, maar het lijdend voorwerp wel.

De focus van de zin:             My bike was stolen.              (passive -  focus op 'my bike')

                                                       Someone stole my bike.     (active - focus op 'someone')

Wanneer gebruiken we de passive?

1) Formele geschriften en wetenschappelijke artikelen 

2) Wanneer het onbekend is wie het deed, of het os overduidelijk wie, of we willen het niet zeggen)

3) De zin kan beginnen met het meest logische of meest belangrijke informatie

The passive voice

Het onderwerp (agent) staat of wel of niet in de zin:                    My bike was stolen (by someone). 

De present simple:               am/are/is + voltooid deelwoord                            

                                                       I am often told I look just like my dad.                

                                                       The car is not repaired.

De past simple:                      was/were + voltooid deelwoord                              

                                                      The record was broken by two teenagers.        

                                                      I was told to wait here.

Zet de volgende zinnen in de past simple passive:

Vergeet geen hoofdletters en leestekens. 

Zet 'by + onderwerp' bij je zinnen. 

Rose ate all the cookies.

The police caught the criminals.

A green car hit a student.
