SOME / ANY

SOME and ANY both mean in dutch:

  • een beetje
  • een paar
  • enkele 

So some and any have the same meaning and indicate a quantity (hoeveelheid), but are used in different types of sentences.

Some is used in affirmative (normal) sentences.

Any is used in negative sentences.

With interrogative sentences you can use BOTH.

when you expect the answer to be "yes" - often when you ask for something or someone offers something:
Can I have some sugar, please?
Would you like some cheese?

for questions you don't know the answer to, use any:

1. If you find the grammar of 6.5 difficult click here
             2. If you find the grammar of 6.5 easy click here that can complete the sentence. If a player has an appropriate card (e.g. some chickens), they put it down and say the complete sentence. If the other players agree that the phrase completes the sentence, the pair of cards are removed from the game. If not, the player takes the card back and the players continue trying to complete the sentence. The game continues until one player gets rid of all their cards. That student wins the game. The other two students continue playing until all the sentence cards have been used. Afterwards, check the correct answers with the class.
