Het onderwerp voert een actie uit.

Passive

Het onderwerp overkomt iets.

The room was painted (by me).

En daardoor verandert de werkwoordstijd en wisselen zinsdelen van plek.

Active persoonsvorm:

Kan elke werkwoordstijd zijn, wij werken nu alleen met present simple of past simple.

Mike made a brownie.

Passive persoonsvorm:

vorm van to be plus het voltooid deelwoord van het werkwoord.

A brownie was made by Mike.

Active

Present simple:

The company hires the woman.

Past simple:

He delivered the letters.

Passive

Present simple:

The woman is hired by the company.

Past simple:

The letters were delivered.

Passive Voice

What makes a sentence passive?

The combination of 'to be' + past participle (volt. dlw) makes a sentence passive:

The woman is bitten (by the dog).

The wound was stitched (by the doctor).

+ the subject is not doing the verb

Tense

ACTIVE= He is stealing a bike.

ACTIVE

ONDERWERP = WIE /WAT het doet staat vooraan de zin.

PASSIVE: The bike is stolen.

Een voegwoord (‘conjunction’) is een woord dat twee deelzinnen ('clauses') met elkaar verbindt. Ze geven een andere reden van voegen weer, zoals bijvoorbeeld:

opsomming, reden of oorzaak, gevolg, tegenstelling, etc.
