What do you already know about the industial revolution?

What you'll learn 

In this paragraph, you will learn.. 

- what changed in the lives of people in the 19th century

Major changes 

- The city of  Liverpool was at the height of its development in 1900

- from 80 000 to 700 000 inhabitants

- the citizens had become rich thanks to its port 

- Ships from India and America brought a lot of cotton
- Which was turned into textile in factories:

- Buildings where products are made by means of machines

- Channels and railways were built to transport the resources and products in Great Britain

- In 1830 the first reailway in  the world between Liverpool and Manchester was put to use.

- The period from 1800 onwards is called the modern times. 

- A lot of manual labour in that time was replaced with machines and a lot of people worked in factories.

-The industrial revolution had begon

Increased production

- The production of the industry increased significantly thanks to the IR

- Why?

- Invention of the steam engine  (James Watt)

- Also a great change in the textile industry 

- Spinning Jenny
And the use of cotton instead of wool

The industrial society

- The IR had major consequences for the various sectors of the economy.

- in 1900 more than 50 percent of British people worked in the industrial sector.

- Urbanisation

- The population grew quickly 
- Big inventions in the agricultural sector

- Merchant capitalism was replaced by industrial capitalism
