De toekomst: 4 manieren

Present Simple

De present simple (tegenwoordige tijd) ken je al voor feiten, gewoonten en zaken met regelmaat: 

 - I have a sister.

 - He plays tennis on Sundays.

 - We often take pictures of birds and butterflies. 

Present Simple

Je maakt de present simple door het hele werkwoord zonder 'to' te gebruiken: 

 - We go to work every day. 

 - I work as a teacher. 

 

Bij she/he/it geldt de SHIT-regel:

 - She runs 5 miles every week. 

 - The dog never goes into the water. 

Present Simple

I leave at 7 p.m.

you leave at 7 p.m.

he/she/it leaves at 7 p.m.

we leave at 7 p.m.

you leave at 7 p.m.

they leave at 7 p.m.

Present Simple

De present simple kun je ook gebruiken voor de future (toekomst) als je spreekt over tijdschema’s, roosters en dienstregelingen: (dit noemen we dan de future present simple)

- My work starts at nine o'clock.

- We stay in Paris for one more week.

- The bus leaves in 30 minutes.

Bij deze ww gebruik je vaak de future present simple:

arrive      The bus arrives in one hour.

start       The news starts in ten minutes.

close       These shops close when it gets dark.

finish     What time does your dad finish work?

open      The zoo opens at 8 o'clock. 

end         The film ends at midnight.

begin     When does the match begin?

depart   My train departs in fifteen minutes.

leave      I leave five minutes before school starts.

Kort samengevat: 

Je gebruikt de future present simple als je spreekt over tijdschema's, roosters en dienstregelingen. 

Present Continuous

I am working tonight

You are working this afternoon

He/she/it is working

We are working

You are seeing your friend tomorrow

They are seeing their friends tomorrow

Vorm

Je maakt de present continuous door de juiste vorm van het werkwoord 'to be' (=zijn) + hele werkwoord (handeling) + ing.

I am (= juiste vorm van 'to be') working (= werkwoord + ing).

Bij de present continuous is het vrijwel zeker dat iets gaat gebeuren.

Present Continuous

De future present continuous gebruik je voor:

1. Dingen die gepland zijn.

2. Dingen die vrijwel zeker gaan gebeuren

Voorbeeld: I'm leaving for Africa tomorrow.

Of: We're having a party this Saturday.

Bij de present continuous is het vrijwel zeker dat iets gaat gebeuren.

Ben arrives at the train station at 2 o'clock

The movie begins at 8 p.m.

 Intentie (Er staat nog niks vast)

Will / Shall

Wanneer gebruik je 'will'

• voor feiten in de toekomst
• om te voorspellen wat er zal gaan gebeuren
• om aan te bieden iets te doen

Hoe pas je 'will' toe?

Vorm: will + het hele werkwoord (is de handeling die je wilt gaan doen)

There will be lots of sunshine tomorrow

I will carry that for you

Our guests will arrive around ten o'clock

Will / Shall

There won't be lots of sunshine tomorrow

I won't carry that for you

Our guests won't arrive around ten o'clock

Will you help me look for my keys?

Shall I open the door for you?

Shall we bring them some chocolate?

Ontkenningen

Als je wilt zeggen dat iets NIET zo is. Dan plak je het woordje 'not' achter will. Will + not = won't. De vorm wordt dan won't + hele werkwoord (de handeling die je NIET wilt gaan doen).

(Note: will not helemaal uitgeschreven gebruik je bijna nooit)

Vraagzinnen

• Bij vragen gebruik je het woordje 'shall' als het om 'I' (=ik) en 'we' (=wij) gaat. De formule is dan: Shall + I of we + hele werkwoord.
• In alle andere gevallen zet je het woordje 'will' vooraan in de zin. De formule wordt dan: will + persoon + hele werkwoord.
