Use Past Continuous when
something happened in the past AND it took some time to finish.
How to make the Past Simple:
was/were + main verb + ing

UNLESS it is an irregular verb, like: see - saw

Modal verbs
Modal verbs add meaning to the sentence.
Should
= advice, no obligation (advies, geen verplichting)
I
should
practice for my test tomorrow.
Must
= obligation from the speaker OR strong advice (verplichting van de spreker OF sterk advies)

call your grandparents soon.
Have to
= obligation (verplichting)
