• Map territorial expansion and settlement, highlighting the locations of conflicts with and resettlement of Native Americans.
• Determine how expansion created opportunities for some and hardships for others by considering multiple perspectives over different time periods
• Integrate information from diverse sources, both primary and secondary, into a coherent understanding of America's expansion out west

How do we unpack the learning target?

Learning targets are similar to the writing prompts you see on exams. Learning targets, like writing prompts, illicit information.  

When looking at learning tasks, you should identify question words such as: 

examine, explore, integrate, interrogate, determine, map out, highlight etc.

When you see these buzz words, You need to now turn those declarative statements into questions. 

Questions should ask either how or why. (SPOILER ALERT) if the statement includes why or how, then the question will start with why or how. If the statement does not include why or how, then you will ask how!!!!!!!!!

• Annexation: possession taken of a piece of land or a country, usually by force or without permission
• Joint Occupation: The possession and settling of an area shared by two or more countries.
