§1.2 Zooming in on Calgary

Calgary has a population of 1 million and is the biggest city in Alberta. You are going to find out what Calgary looks like. You will take a walk through the streets of Calgary

What do you already know?

What do you about downtown and suburbs?

Downtown: high-rise buildings 

• Calgary city centre = downtown
  

Characteristics: 

1. high buildings / skyscraper

4. not much greenery

Suburbs: low-rise buildings

Spacious residential districts = suburbs.

Characteristics of suburbs:

Scale levels

Zooming in = closer to the Earth: from a large to a smaller area.

Zooming out = from a small toa larger area.
