A vast country

  • Geography is about areas.

  • A part of the Earth’s surface = area or region.




Topography: description of a place or region.
Small or large part of the Earth’s surface. Another word: region.

General map: a map that shows cities, rivers, seas, mountains, roads and railways (Figure 1).
Types of maps
Thematic map. about one subject

Legend: meaning of the colours and symbols,

Scale: how much smaller the region is,
