Future Tenses

We use the present simple for something scheduled:

We have a biology class next Monday.

The train arrives at 6.30 in the morning.

The holidays start next week.

It is my birthday tomorrow.

Future Tenses

We can use the present continuous for plans or arrangements:

I am playing football tomorrow.

They are coming to see us tomorrow.

We are having a party at Christmas.

Will can be used in expressing rapid decisions, or a future action that you have decided on at the moment of speaking. 

“I’m thirsty! I think I will buy a drink.” 

“Okay, I’ll go to your party!” 

“I will help with you your luggage, they look heavy!” 

Future Tenses

We use be going to to talk about future plans and intentions. Usually the decision about the future plans has already been made. + predictions & commands

She is going to be a professional dancer when she grows up.

Look out! He is going to break that glass.

You are going to pick up all of those toys right now. This room is a mess!

Past Tenses

Past Simple: Something happened in the past

I met my wife in 1983.

They got home very late last night.

Past Continuous: for something which happened before and after another action

The children were doing their homework when I got home.

Past Perfect: to talk about time up to a certain point in the past.

She had published her first poem by the time she was eight.

We had finished all the water before we were halfway up the mountain.

Had the parcel arrived when you called yesterday?

Present Perfect: for something that started in the past and continues in the present. 

They have been married for nearly fifty years.

She hasn't lived in Liverpool since she was eight years old.
