Present Continuous: am/are/is + -ing form

You use the Present Continuous to talk about actions at the time of speaking

REMEMBER THIS

Present Continuous consists of TWO parts:

1. am/are/is

2. -ing form

To form the -ing form:

Add -ing to the verb

If the verb ends in -e, drop -e (make→making)

REMEMBER THIS

If the verb ends  with a short vowel + a consonant, double the last letter:

fit → fitting

chop → chopping

We can use the PRESENT SIMPLE to talk about things we do regularly. (facts/habits/routines)

We can use the PRESENT CONTINUOUS to talk about things we are doing now. (at the moment of speaking/temporary actions)

Present Simple

We can use the PRESENT SIMPLE to talk about things we do regularly. (facts/habits/routines)

Time expressions:

always, usually, every day/morning/summer, on Saturdays etc.

Present Continuous

We can use the PRESENT CONTINUOUS to talk about things we are doing now. (at the moment of speaking/temporary actions)

Time expressions:

at the moment, now, right now, today, this month, this summer, etc.

REMEMBER THIS!

These verbs do NOT have the Present Continuous form:

believe - hate - know - like - love - mean - need - prefer - understand - want.
