Far from the equator, lots of precipitation, high temperatures.
B
Close to the equator, lots of precipitation, high temperatures.
C
Close to the equator, little precipipation, high temperatures

Slide 4 - Quiz

The rainforest is important to us humans. Which of the following statements is FALSE?
A
The rainforest is important because they are the lungs of the earth.
B
The rainforest is important because a lot of natural resources can be found there.
C

Slide 5 - Quiz

If the rainforest is so important, why does the Brazilian government deforest it?

Slide 6 - Open question

How can we use the natural resources from the rainforest, yet treat the rainforest in a more sustainable (duurzaam) way?

Slide 7 - Open question

Chapter 2 - Paragraph 1
Important stuff
- Tropical rainforest (close to the equator)
- Home to animals and people
- Lungs of the earth
- Deforestation for 2 reasons:
1. Population distribution.
2. Natural resources: wood --> furniture --> money
- Use rainforest more sustainable (ex. reforestation)

Slide 8 - Slide

Which of the following landscapes is the furthest away from the equator?
A
Tropical rainforest
B
Savannah
C
Steppe
D
Desert

Slide 9 - Quiz

What do we call people who don't live in one place, but travel around?
A
Farmers
B
Extensive livestock farming
C
Nomads
D
Travellers

Slide 10 - Quiz

How do nomads survive?

Slide 11 - Open question

Which of the following statements is true.
A
More and more people are coming to the Sahel, this could be dangerous for the environment.
B
In the Sahel you can never predict the precipitation, this is good because you need a dry and wet season.
C
People who move to the Sahel are nomads.
D
It's good that people in the Sahel have a lot of animals, so they have something to eat.

Slide 12 - Quiz

What can people, who live in one place, in dry areas do to survive?

Slide 13 - Open question

Chapter 2 - Paragraph 2
Important stuff
  • The order of landscapes from the equator is: tropical rainforest, savannah, steppe, desert, temperate zone, cold/polar climates.
  • Dry areas are: steppe  (grass)+ desert(nothing can grow here).
  •  Nomads: people who don't live in one place but travel. When their livestock has eaten the grass in one place, they travel to the next
  • Way to survive in dry areas: irrigation from an oases to your land so you can water your crops.
  • Sahel: vulnerable because of overgrazing --> desertification.

Slide 14 - Slide

Why is it hard to live in a cold area like Greenland?

Slide 15 - Open question

Why are there (almost) no trees in Greenland?
A
It is too cold for trees to grow
B
There's not enough precipitation for trees to grow
C
Due to the thick layer of snow, the tree-seeds can't grow

Slide 16 - Quiz

In Greenland there are layers of landice that are 3000 metres thick. How was this landice formed? Use the term perpetual snow in your answer.

Slide 17 - Open question

Cold climates can be found at...
A
High altitude
B
High latitude
C
Low altitude
D
Low latitude

Slide 18 - Quiz

Chapter 2 - Paragraph 3
Important stuff
  • Cold climates and landscapes like the tundra can be found at: high latitude (polar areas) + high altitudes (in the mountains)
  • Landice is formed because it is so cold that the snow does not melt, we call this perpetual snow
  • Greenland has a low population density, because it is hard to live there due to the cold climate.
