Present simple
Vorm: Werkwoord (+ - s bij he/she/it)

Gebruik:
  • Feiten
  • Gewoonten (always, usually, often, never, etc.)







Voorbeeld
  • A day lasts for 24 hours.
  • I always have porridge for breakfast.
  • The sun sets in the west.

Vorm: vorm van to be + hele werkwoord + ing
Gebruik:
  • Iets gebeurt nu, is nu gaande.
  • Ergenis, irritatie (signaalwoorden: always, all the time)







Voorbeeld
  • I am doing my homework, so I can't help you.
  • You are always telling me what to do!

Present perfect
Vorm: vorm van to have/ has + voltooid deelwoord

Gebruik:
  • Iets is in het verleden begonnen en duurt nog steeds voort.
  • Nadruk ligt op het resultaat van iets wat in het verleden is gebeurd (enkelvoudige gebeurtenissen).







Voorbeeld
  • They have had that car for a few months now.
  • He is cranky because he has hurt his foot.

Present perfect continuous
Vorm: Vorm van to have/ has + been + hele werkwoord + - ing
Gebruik:
  • Nadruk ligt op tijdsduur (signaalwoorden: for hours, for ages, etc.)
  • Nadruk ligt op het resultaat van iets wat in het verleden is gebeurd (herhaalde of langdurige gebeurtenissen).






Voorbeeld
  • Finally! I have been waiting for you for hours!
  • We are tired because we have been working since early this morning.
