Je gebruikt de second conditional om te praten over dingen in de toekomst die zeer onwaarschijnlijk of op dit moment zelfs onmogelijk zijn. 

Als dit zou gebeuren (maar het gebeurt niet) dan zou ik dat doen. 

If I won the lottery, I would buy an island 

If I met my favourite singer, I would ask for a picture. 
If I worked harder, I would get better grades.
