- Comparative: vergrotende trap

- Superlative: overtreffende trap

Vergelijken doe je met bijwoorden of bijvoeglijke naamwoorden

Woorden van 1 lettergreep/syllable:

- Comparative: -er

- Superlative: -est

Woorden van 2 of meer lettergrepen of meer:

- Comparative: more more- Superlative: most

Woorden van 2 lettergrepen die eindigen op le/er/ow/y/some 

krijgen ook +er  / + est

Yellow - yellower than - the yellowest

Gentle - gentler than - the gentlest

Voorbeelden :

This is the simplest task I've ever done.

I am cleverer than you. 

Spelling:

Woorden die eindigen op '-e' krijgen '-r' of '-st'

           Mr Jones is nicer than Mr Smith

Eindigen met: medeklinker + '-y' krijgen '-ier' of 'ies' de '-y' vervalt

          He is the (funny --> funniest) student of the class.

          He is ( happy --> happier) than her.
