The Iconoclastic Fury

In 1566 Dutch nobles (led by William of Orange) ask the Spanish Governor to be milder towards protestants --> she accepts​

• Protestants can now meet in the open --> field preaching

In 1566 one of these preachings leads to aggression --> the attendees go to a monastery where they destroy the images and take the valuables​

• This is the start of the Iconoclastic Fury​

Philip II sends the Duke of Alva with an army to restore order and punish the protestants​

• Many flee the country (including William of Orange)
