The Future Tense

Er zijn vier manieren om over de toekomst te praten in het Engels.

1. Will + hele werkwoord

2. Am/Are/Is going to + hele werkwoord

3. Am/Are/Is + werkwoord+ ing

4. Present Simple (tegenwoordige tijd) He/she/it = werkwoord + s

Will + hele werkwoord

Gebruik:  

- iets aanbieden

- beloftes

- aankondigingen en besluiten

- voorspellingen zonder bewijs

I love London. I will go there next year.

My horoscope says that I will meet an old friend this week.

Am going to + hele werkwoord

Is going to + hele werkwoord

Are going to + hele werkwoord

Je gebruikt het bij: 

- plan in de toekomst

- voorspellingen met bewijs

Look at the sky. It is going to rain in a bit.

We are going to make a boat this week. 

Is Sheila going to go to the party?

Am/are/is + werkwoord + ing

Gebruik:

- afspraken in de nabije toekomst waarvan de tijd en/of plaats al vaststaat. 

I'm working at the supermarket from four till six.

They are going to school on Monday. 

Present Simple (tegenwoordige tijd)

bij I, you, we they: hele werkwoord

bij he/she/it: hele werkwoord+s

Gebruik: 

- tijden volgens een vast schema.

The train departs at a quarter past five.

We leave at 9 AM.
