Conditionals

Conditionals zijn voorwaardelijke zinnen: als ..... , dan ......

Een conditional sentence bestaat uit twee delen, een hoofdzin en een zinsdeel met if.

First conditional

First Conditional

Vorm: bij de first conditional gebruik je verschillende tijden in de twee zinsdelen. Bij if gebruik je de Present Simple en in het andere zinsdeel will + een werkwoord.

Gebruik: als het best waarschijnlijk is dat iets gaat gebeuren, nu of in de toekomst.

If you study well,

you will pass the test.

* "If-clause", het zinsdeel waar if in staat.

* In dit zinsdeel gebruik je altijd de present simple

Onthoud: if en 'will' gaan niet samen.

If you will study well, you will pass the test.

Vul in First Conditional:
If I ... (see) Mary, I ... (tell) her.

Vul in First Conditional:
If you ... (work) hard, you ... (get) rich.

Vul in First Conditional:
Their teacher ... (to be) sad if they ... (not - to pass) their exam.

Second conditional

Second Conditional

Vorm: bij de second conditional gebruik je verschillende tijden in de twee zinsdelen. Bij if gebruik je de Past Simple en in het andere zinsdeel would + een werkwoord.

Gebruik: als het niet waarschijnlijk is dat iets gaat gebeuren, nu of in de toekomst.

Second Conditional

Onthoud: if  en would gaan niet samen.

Vb. If I would get got a puppy, I would be so happy.

Let op: Als je in de if-zin be gebruikt, dan gebruik je bij alle personen were, dus ook bij I en he/ she/ it.

Vb. I wouldn't touch that if I was were you.

Second conditional:
I ... (phone) your mum if I ... (be) you.

Second conditional:
If I ... (inherit) a billion euros, I ... (travel) to the moon.

Second Conditional:
