Unit 3 New York

Slide 1 - Slide

NY is also called The Big Apple.
In 1625 the Dutch built a fort on the coast of America : Fort Amsterdam. In 1653 it became a city : New Amsterdam. That lasted only a short time: in 1664 it became New York, when the English occupied it after the war.
There are still Dutch names and words in New York : Harlem, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bleecker Street, Wall Street, Yonkers , to name a few.
